Course content
In Geological Sample Preparation II students will be introduced into advanced geological sample preparation techniques. Geological sample preparation is a vital base for any further analytical study.
Methods of Mineral separation
- Crushing Rock with a Hydraulic Press
- Crushing Rock with a Jawbreaker
- Sieving
- Mineral separation with a Wifley Table
- Panning
- Using a Magnetic Separator (Frantz)
- Microscoping
- Heavy Liquid Separation
Analytical methods
- Microscopy
- Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
