MSc Geophysics P3
Module content
The courses of this module teaches broad basic knowledge of three fields essential for the application of computers for geophysical research. These are firstly algorithms from numerical mathematics that are used to evaluate and simulate physical models on computers. Secondly the courses deal with efficient and correct implementation of such algorithms on computer systems and thirdly the module teaches methods from the field of signal processing.
After successful participation in this module students are in the position to implement standard geophysical models on computer systems, compare and evaluate different such implementations and apply standard software packages for numerical simulations and signal processing. In addition, students are able to explain advanced theoretical basics of system theory and understand the interaction between space/time and frequency domain. Students are able to evaluate and interpret data sets using methods of signal processing.
