There are many directories of spatial information which are rooted through the USGS. In addition to the information listed above, there are numerous GIS shapefiles which can be used individually or in conjunction with satellite imagery datasets and basemaps. These are available through the USGS data catalog where data from most of the topics in science is available (i.e. geology, hydrology, biology, geography etc.). All the data is open source, however the data published data should be noted and considered during analysis. GIS data included in this catalog includes datasets such as large mineral deposits, geological unit shapefiles, stream and river shapefiles, distribution of biological parameters, groundwater information, geomorphological feature distribution, fault line shapefiles and many more. Many of the shapefiles are specific to the United States but global datasets exist through this site as well. | There are many directories of spatial information which are rooted through the USGS.
